Chateau Bourgeoisie

The Chateau of Laimont welcomes three blue peacocks to its estate.

A male peacock and two females (hens) are given a majestic dwelling in the spacious stable with glass windows on the side of the Chateau. The animals can sleep inside the stable, and are also fed there…

They are allowed to roam freely and parade in the 18-acre garden of the Castle...

Castle Lords Steve & Maurice are very enthusiastic about the arrival of the animals and have prepared the accommodation for the three birds down to the last detail.

On November 13, 2024, the birthday of their godchild 'NOLAN', the majestic animals arrive at the grounds of Chateau Bourgeoisie in Laimont.

The blue peacock

originates from India and Sri Lanka

The blue peacock (Pavo cristatus)

is a bird of the order Galliformes. Like the other peacock species, the green peacock, the blue peacock is a colorful bird.

They are omnivores that feed on both insects,

snails and worms like

berries and seeds. Although they spend most of their time on the ground, they can fly if necessary. They usually spend the night on a tree branch or in a bush.

The blue peacock is native to India and Sri Lanka, but is successfully kept and bred almost all over the world...

Throughout history, peacocks were highly sought after.

Throughout history, roosters in particular were highly sought after. Their plumage was highly appreciated for its aesthetics.

Until the 19th century, these animals were therefore very popular among the wealthier people.

To keep a pair, you already need a large garden with trees. Many poorer laborers could not afford this luxury...

  • In culinary finesse: the stuffed rooster was roasted and served with its plumage.
  • This also happened with swans, pheasants, and turkeys, which serve as showpieces on a game table.

  • In the fashion industry:

Peacock feathers were used for fans, hats, and ladies' accessories. For this purpose, the flight feathers are also used, and not just the tail feathers. White peacock feathers are also processed.

Feel free to visit the gardens of the Chateau of Laimont, and the Lords of the Manor, Steve & Maurice, will be happy to give you a short tour of the charming estate, where you can observe the animals and even feed them.
